Zenta
Zentra is an Android digital wellbeing and productivity platform built with Kotlin and modern Android development practices. It transforms Android usage statistics into a personalized Focus Score while helping users manage screen time through focus sessions, app limits, mindfulness interventions, streaks, and productivity analytics.
📌 Description
Zentra was developed to explore Android system integrations, background processing, local data persistence, productivity analytics, and digital wellbeing features.
The application analyzes device usage patterns and assigns different weights to productive, neutral, and distracting applications to calculate a personalized Focus Score.
It also provides background-resilient focus sessions, app usage quotas, mindfulness interventions, historical analytics, focus streaks, a home screen widget, and a Quick Settings tile.

🎯 Focus Score
Zentra calculates a weighted Focus Score from Android's usage statistics instead of treating all screen time equally.
Applications are assigned different weights according to their category:
- Productive apps: 20% weight
- Neutral apps: 100% weight
- Distracting apps: 200% weight
This approach allows the score to better represent intentional device usage by penalizing distracting activity more heavily than productive usage.
⏱️ Focus Sessions
Zentra includes both Pomodoro and Deep Focus sessions designed to help users maintain uninterrupted periods of concentration.
Focus sessions are backed by an Android Foreground Service, allowing timers to continue running even when the application is moved to the background.
Persistent notifications keep the user informed about an active session while the system service manages the session state.
🧘 Mindfulness & App Limits
Users can configure daily usage limits for selected applications. When a configured limit is reached, Zentra can display a short mindfulness intervention before the user continues.
The intervention provides a 5-second breathing pause designed to interrupt habitual app usage and encourage more intentional behavior.
📊 Analytics & Streaks
Zentra stores usage and focus-session data locally and turns it into visual productivity insights.
The application includes category distribution charts, 7-day trend graphs, daily goal tracking, total focus minutes, and focus streak history.
These statistics allow users to identify usage patterns and measure their progress over time.
📱 Android System Integration
Zentra integrates directly with Android system features rather than functioning only as a standard application.
- Home Screen Widget: Displays the current Focus Score and provides quick access to focus sessions.
- Quick Settings Tile: Allows users to start or toggle a Focus Session directly from the Android system shade.
- Foreground Service: Keeps active focus sessions running reliably in the background.
- WorkManager: Handles scheduled mindfulness-related background tasks.
